Unfolding Quest is not simply a comic book; it is a cinematic object disguised as sequential art — a visual
meditation unfolding across shifting terrains of time, genre, and imagination.
At its center stands Pai, a blue-skinned wanderer whose Smurf-like exterior conceals a Buddha-like
stillness and an enigmatic inner life. Pursuing him is Colonel Wolan, a figure reminiscent of an
eighteenth-century gentleman of fortune — hunter, witness, and perhaps mirror — whose relentless
pursuit carries the narrative through fractured landscapes: a nocturnal card-sharp duel aboard a train, the
desolate expanses of a post-apocalyptic Central European hinterland, and the ceremonial court of a distant
sci-fi empress.
Yet narrative is only one layer of Mileta Postić’s vision. The true force of Unfolding Quest lies in its
visual thinking — in the mysteries hidden within each meticulously composed panel and in the charged
spaces between them.
Echoing the dream logic of Alice in Wonderland refracted through a psychedelic dystopia, Postić
constructs a hybrid world where historical epochs collide, costumes migrate across centuries, and genres
dissolve into one another. Reality is neither rejected nor imitated; it is reassembled into a parallel
continuum that feels at once estranged and intimately familiar.
Postić’s drawing is dense yet restrained. It is baroque yet precise. Action in Unfolding Quest unfolds with
deliberate understatement, allowing suggestion and unsaid to activate the reader’s imagination. Meaning
resides not only within the frame but in the off-space — the invisible arena where images resonate and
transform. Here, a demi-monde of Central European drifters, card sharps, police officers, women of
ambiguous virtue, extraterrestrial travelers, and the elusive Pai move together within the grand guignol of
Postić’s boundless imagination.
The result is a work inhabiting a visual grey zone — where Quentin Tarantino’s absurdist rhythms
intersect with the wasteland poetics of Hermann’s Jeremiah, where philosophical notions of resemblance,
contiguity, and causation brush against the uncanny symbolism of the digital age- the crazed AI
emoticons.
Unfolding Quest invites not passive reading but active wandering — a journey through images that
dream, resist, and unfold beyond their own borders.
