Bezimena (meaning: nameless in most Slavic languages) is a noir-style graphic novel/picture book for grownups, a modern-time rendition of the myth of Artemis and Siproites. Artemis is the virgin goddess of hunting and childbirth, daughter of Zeus. Her dominion is the mountains, rivers and ports. Siproites is a young man whom Artemis turns into girl as a punishment for attempted rape of one of her virgin cohorts. There is very little written about this particular myth, mostly in form of footnotes and mere mentions. However, by some sources, the act of rape happened in entirety.
The visual and narrative style of Bezimena is mostly influenced by the 1942 noir classic Cat People, Jean Cocteau’s Orpheus trilogy and the television drama Singing Detective by Dennis Potter. The book is estimated to be completed by May 2018 and will contain approximately 240 pages.
